Everyone has a view on it. Everyone talks about it. It’s the universal story of the weather.

A-reir na h-Aimsir kick starts Scotland’s love affair and obsession with the weather in an entertaining exploration of our relationship with the weather.

On an adventure through the Western Isles we explore how the weather has shaped the people and geography of these islands and how their livelihoods – and indeed their lives – depend on it. The islands are on the frontline of the weather so understanding the weather is vital to that coastal community.

The series explores a wealth of fascinating human stories through a mixture of expert comment, contemporary story telling and computer generated images, while aerial shots showcase the beauty of the islands.

Scotland, with 13%, has the highest concentration of redheads per head of population anywhere in the world.

But behind the statistics lies a fascinating story that involves everyone from scientists to supermodels, that’s fired the imagination of rappers and animators, and that’s inspired campaigners and radio DJ’s. It’s a story about evolution, genetics, the complexity of prejudice, the roots of identity, and EVEN the threat of extinction.

“Stop the world, Scotland wants to get on” were the words of prominent SNP politician, Winnie Ewing on the 2nd November 1967, when she won the sensational watershed Hamilton by-election, snatching one of the safest Labour seats in Scotland and transformed the political landscape forever.

Madame Ecosse is an intimate but hard-hitting film about Winnie Ewing which reveals exclusive footage of Winnie pre-Hamilton era and her unseen personal photographic archive.

As she enters her 80th year, Winnie’s sheer charisma is undiminished and this Grand Dame of Scottish politcs is as sharp as ever. With contributions in the documentary from Alex Salmond, Ian Paisley, Tam Dalyell, Michael Russell, Brian Wilson, Angus Brendan MacNeil, Alasdair Allan and Fergus Ewing, the film explores her life and work and tells the story of a fast moving era during which her country and her life changed completely.

After five decades in politics spent in three parliaments, Westminster, Europe where she earned her nickname Madame Ecosse and the Scottish Parliament, Winnie has been hailed as a nationalist heroine who is loved by some and loathed by others.

So how did this lawyer become the Grand Dame of Scottish politics and why are we still coming to terms with the effects of her win at Hamilton?

Produced & Directed by: Ishbel MacIver
Producer: Morag Stewart
Assistant Producer: Gerry Callaghan
Editor: Mel Hamilton

To prepare for their roles as soldiers in Shed Production’s drama Bombshell, Zoe Lucker and the rest of the cast were sent to a Boot Camp in deepest darkest Bracknell for basic army training.

Our no mercy instructor, puts them through their paces as they go from raw recruits to serious soldiers enduring three days of exhausting, agonising Bombshell Boot Camp; feel their pain as our cast endure a punishing early morning squadded run, experience the short sharp shock of a 4am rude awakening and a rain soaked orienteering exercise. And it’s ready steady cook in the woods as they cook from army rations. Oh and let’s not forget the shouting, the ritual humiliation and lots and lots of pain. Will they all survive Bombshell Bootcamp?
